Assistants & Agents Guide

How to write a brief an AI assistant can follow

The short answer

A good brief names the outcome, the audience and the format in three sentences.

Start with the outcome

Say what finished looks like: a table, a five-line summary, a draft email. The assistant can only aim at a target you name.

Give the context it cannot guess

Name the audience, the tone and anything it must avoid. Paste the source text instead of describing it.

Fix the format

  • Length, in words or items
  • Structure, such as headings or a table
  • What to do when information is missing

Check and iterate

Read the first answer for gaps, then change one thing in the brief and run it again.

FAQ

How long should a brief be?

Long enough to remove guesswork. Three to six sentences covers most tasks.
